"Ultimately, I don't think arguments for gay & lesbian equality should hinge on whether sexual orientation is inborn or accquired. It doesn't matter why we're gay. It matters that we're gay, and how we're treated. Equality should stem from the simple fact of being citizens. "

I couldn't agree more. I think the argument that LGBT people should be treated with acceptance and/or tolerance because we're born that way is completely misguided. Basically this argument is predicated on the assumption that we should treat people differently based on their genetics (because the corollary is that people should feel free to mistreat us if being gay was a choice, right?!)

Frankly, I think deciding how to treat people on the basis of their genetics is a Very. Bad. Idea. There are the obvious historical analogies for that type of ethic.

Exactly. What is at issue in the debate over queer acceptance is the ability of people to create relationships with whoever they want and with whatever levels of intimacy they want. Providing that all participants are competant adults.

I couldn't possibly disagree with this post being that i am a 25 year old homosexual myself. I am who i am and i also displayed overtly feminine traits as a child. As for them ever finding a "cure" not only does that make my skin crawl as well but...not possible...they would have to break me down and rebuild me! I am gay and this is how i came into this world and this is how i shall leave it. The transition from the questioning point to "ok I'm gay", may have been hard...but its all I know, I love myself and I love my lifestyle. Some may not like being born with eyes, but hey--you have eyes. Deal. Being gay is like having eyes, its part of the package. All in all that to me is enough that it shouldn't matter. That to me says this is how "God" intended me to be. It's all i have ever been. It chose me, I didn't choose it,and i do not care who cannot accept my normality.
