The Romanist Gay Purge, and Homophobes on GetReligion

Here's an interesting and thought-provokinig article by Terry Mattingly on the GetReligion blog on the subject of the Roman Catholic Church's "gay priest purge." Warning: you might want to stop reading before you get to the comments section, unless you enjoy dishing with the smarty pants homophobes about tired old saws.

In an uncharitable but entirely justified judgment, I unapologetically called the various remarks "thought turds." I think it's usually best to call a spade a spade, then ignore such remarks rather than to engage. But that has something to do with the fact that I've already dealt with the homophobes's position, rebutted it, and moved on. To see a few of my past engagements with religious conservatives on this blog, see "Deep Thoughts on Gay Marriage and Spiritual Anarchy," and "An Episcopal Gaia mass, sex, and conservative's journey of faith..." and "What is heterosexual supremacy?" More recently, I've written about when to call a homophobe a homophobe.
