A conservative tells you who to vote for
What's in a label? In a post praising Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, a conservative commentator writes:
This administration wants a fight; and we need to give it to them. They have bungled the war, trashed the constitution, wrecked the fiscal future, deeply damaged America's reputation, and profoundly corrupted conservatism as a coherent political philosophy. I don't care what we have to do to get rid of them, but we must by every peaceful, lawful means imaginable. They have gone too far. Vote them out.
The conservative pundit? Andrew Sullivan. Beyond the labels (conservative liberal, libertarian, etc.) that help us to define our differences, there is the common ground of shared values and interests. The funny thing is, staking out the common ground is by no means a surefire way to get elected, win friends, or gain influence. Indeed, it's very likely to win you the antagonism of your friends while not really satisfying your enemies.
It takes courage in all political parties and from folks of all political philosophies and persuasions to move ahead. Let's support the folks forging integral, both/and, include and move forward, bridge to the future-type folks. Let's support the Andrew Sullivans and the Hilary Clintons of the world.
