Comments

Orual

So true - Christ said "Love your neighbor as yourself", which means you first have to know how to love yourself well. And you should never be more harsh on yourself than you would on anyone else you loved. Sometimes its much harder to do that than to show to compassion to to others, but to hold yourself to a higher standard than others is only prideful.

Shane Montgomery

As a former evangelical pastor who recently came out I can attest to the importance of loving yourself. 23 years of ministry taught me that my same sex attraction was a sign of sinful weakness. When I came out I felt free because I realized that God loves me... Period. I used to put a qualifier like, "in spite of my attraction to guys" I now sense the lack of a need to put such qualifiers behind statements about God's love.
